Kanata, ON & Wilmington, MA — GSI
Lumonics Inc. (Nasdaq: GSLI and TSE: LSI) has
announced release of the Circuit Trim 1000 Laser Trim
System, now available for all SMEMA-compatible PCB
production lines. Based on previous W-Series
technology widely used in the Electronics industry
to trim thick and thin-film circuits, the new product
provides a SMEMA-compatible conveyor interface and
a new in-line handling system that makes high-speed
testing and fine-tuning of small, fully assembled PCBs
a reality for Bluetooth and many other applications.
The Circuit Trim (CT) 1000 provides active trim for
RF (Bluetooth) modules and most Printed Circuit Board
resistors, capacitors and inductors, fine-tuning the
circuits to extremely tight operating parameters. Full
test functions are integral, including the powering
up of RF modules and device probing to read and analyze
output signals. While comparing output to required
specifications, the system simultaneously trims resistors,
capacitors and inductors with a precise laser beam
to conform the circuits to the exact output value required. This “on-the-fly” adjustment
is also called “active trim.” The
CT1000 enables a significant increase in throughput
through its ability to simultaneously test, fine-tune
and process multiple circuits on a PC board. This in-line
capability is critical for high-volume applications
such as cell phones and other telecom products.
Running
under Windows NT®, the CT1000 Laser Trim
System utilizes a very fast pattern recognition system,
which allows it to automatically find components on
any PCB and align the laser beam accurately at ultra-high
speed, regardless of available lighting conditions. This
feature is beneficial due to the variable lighting
conditions in most facilities.
The Circuit Trim 1000
Laser Trim System easily fits into any section of a
compatible production line, providing smooth integration
between the laser trim process and any type of up-
and down-stream process tools. This “drop
in” solution enables higher throughput capabilities
for PCB production lines to test and fine-tune small,
fully assembled boards; thereby, increasing product
quality for Bluetooth and other applications.
